Using Pepper Spray for Abrupt Attacks
Although there are textbook methods on using
pepper spray, we realize that this is not a perfect world. Therefore,
you may not always find yourself in a textbook situation to apply a
textbook method of pepper spray usage. As a backup plan, you need to
know how to use pepper spray in a speedy, non-formal manner. Here are
two simple tips that will come in handy when you find yourself in a
situation where you have to think fast and make split-second decisions.
- Hold that trigger down and just keep
spraying. Grip your pepper spray with both hands, keep your eyes
open, and concentrate on spraying the face of your assailant. You
can increase your chances of hitting your assailant by spraying left
and right along an imaginary line that runs parallel above his
shoulders.
- Distance is your friend. Don't let your
assailant touch you. The best direction to move away from him is
backwards. However, if you have to juke sideways and around your
assailant, do so. If your assailant gets too close, brace an extended
leg against his body to create distance and keep spraying. If he has you on the floor,
keep kicking and spraying him.
