Learn How Stun Guns Work
This article on how stun guns work covers the
different types of stun guns, and how they can stop an attacker.
Stun guns are self defense devices that can deliver tens to hundreds of
thousands of volts of electricity to quickly subdue
an attacker.
The way in which a stun gun's electric shock is delivered
depends on the type of stun gun. The most common are the ones that have
to be pressed directly against the attackers body. Some are equipped
with compressed gas to shoot conductive darts (wire attached or
wireless) from a distance. Others can do both. Still, others can spray electrically charged
liquid.
There are three major ways a stun gun can stop
an attacker. The first is through pain, in which the jolt of electricity is both startling and excruciating. The
second is by disrupting the body's communication systems. The electrical
charge interferes with the brain's ability to control muscles, causing
the attacker to be confused and uncoordinated. The third is by depleting
the energy levels. The huge amounts of electricity that is dumped into
the body causes the muscles to spasm convulsively, diminishing sugar
levels and building up lactic acid, which tires the attacker.
