The Effects of Pepper Spray - Very Effective, Highly Potent
The effects of pepper spray can are extremely adverse
because it contains inflammatory agents. Only a few seconds are needed for the full power of
pepper spray to be felt.
A good shot in the face will cause the swelling
and inflammation of the skin, eyes, nasal passages, mouth, throat, and
lungs. This leads to temporary blindness, breathing difficulties,
uncontrollable coughing, gagging & choking, nausea, burning pain, and
disorientation.
These effects can last in full
for thirty to forty minutes. Dulling effects such as headache, wheezing,
and impaired vision can last for
hours or even days afterwards.
Take note that if the person receiving
the spray is on certain drugs or medications, has any respiratory
diseases or conditions, or is subject to restraint that restricts air
passageways (i.e. hogtying), there is a risk of death. But we suppose
the attacker gets what he deserves and you have every right to use it to
protect yourself, so don't feel reluctant. It's either your
life or the attacker's.
On the other hand, enraged or hysterical
attackers might take longer to incapacitate.
Remember to always keep yourself at a distance from the attacker while
spraying. Concentrate on hitting his head and keep moving.
People on the receiving end usually
drop to their knees and try to rub
out the pepper spray immediately, but this only makes it worse, as most
pepper sprays are oil based and go deeper into the area with rubbing.
Also, because of this oil based formula, washing with water results in
little or no relief.
